A Regional Landscape Framework for the East of England
Why is Landscape East investing in a Regional Landscape Framework?
The objectives of the Landscape East include to:
And so, following much deliberation, involvement of consultants, and discussions held in association with the examination in public of the Regional Spatial Strategy, the Forum has decided that preparation of a regional landscape framework would help with these objectives.
Work has commenced on this and now continues in earnest, in part because this framework needs to be submitted to the evidence base for the Review of the Regional Spatial Strategy.
The framework will be based on an agreed typology. The latest available version of the typology may be obtained here. Following decisions taken at the meeting of the Regional Landscape Forum on 13 January 2009, this version is also available now to be used for other regional and local studies which require it. Bear in mind that the mapping is based on Ordnance Survey data, so please ensure that you have the necessary licence from OS to reproduce it. It is also suggested that you check back from time to time to obtain the latest version.
The typology is subject to revision and improvement as our understanding of the region increases. For instance some minor revision may be made during summer 2009 to incorporate the results of an exercise the Forum is undertaking to develop a regionalised historic landscape characterisation.
